TAKAKA
MONTHLY MEETING OF TOWN BOARD CAR PARKING IN COMMERCIAL STREET The monthly meeting ol the Takaka Town Board held last evening was attended by Messrs E. A. Polglase (chairman), C. Cate, K. Page and G. E. Boyes (clerk). Accounts totalling £46 3s 5d were passed for payment. LIBERATION OF TROUT FRY The Nelson Acclimatisation Society acknowledged receipt of the board’s letter regarding the transport of trout fry tc the Takaka rivers and noted that the board had been unable to arrange for this, and wished the society to undertake the work. The curator had fry ready and had undertaken to transport them to Takaka as soon as weather conditions were favourable. As the Marlborough Society was not liberating fry this year, the 50,000 reserved for that society had to be liberated elsewhere. and the Nelson Society had therefore decided to place an extra 25.000 in the Takaka rivers, so that 50,000 would be available for Takaka this year. ART UNION GRANTS The Under-Secretary, Department of Internal Affairs, acknowledged receipt of the audited statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the Takaka Relief Fund for the year ended 31st March, 1940. In view of the substantial balance in hand (£6B 2s 6d), the expenditure during the 12 months having amounted to £4l 7s 6d, further grants from the art unions would be discontinued in the meantime. HEALTH INSPECTOR’S REPORT In his report of work performed in the Takaka Town District to 31st October. the Health Inspector (Mr H. Coltman) stated that there had been no notification of any infectious disease during the past few months. A DANGEROUS PRACTICE The fact that motor cars are frequently parked near the intersection of Motupipi and Commercial streets, despite “no parking” signs in the vicinity, was commented upon by members, who considered the practice a dangerous one. A course of action was decided upon to remedy the trouble. It was decided to dispense with the January meeting of the board, the chairman and clerk being authorised to attend to accounts and call a meeting should urgent business arise. RELIEF FUND COMMITTEE Sitting as a Relief Fund Committee, the board made a grant of £5 to a necessitous case.
