TAKEN TO TASK
NEW ZEALAND NEWSPAPERS COMMENT ON BEAU VITE-EL GOLEA AFFAIR I U.P.A.—By Electric Telegraph-Copyright} SYDNEY. 4th December. J The turf writer of the “Sydney Sun" i I takes New Zealand newspapers to task ; ;over the incidents prior to the Mel | I bourne Cup, involving El Golea and ! j Beau Vite. and says that these have been featured in New Zealand from an unfortunate angle, an inference being | that the incidents were inspired by : bookmakers. | The “Sun" adds: “While all whole j some racing people deplored the Beau | Vite affair. it was quite unfair to blame the bookmakers in the absence of absolute proof. The Bookmakers’ | Association in Melbourne was quick to i offer a reward for clearing up the lEI Golea attack. Moreover, New ZeaI land owners are not entirely satisfied with the betting conditions in the Dominion and they lose no opportunity of tackling the best in Australia in the hardest of all races.”
