SIXTY CARGO SHIPS
FIRST BRITISH ORDER FOR CONSTRUCTION GIVEN TO U.S. BUILDERS [British Official Wireless] (Received 4th December, 11.30 a.m.) RUGBY, 3rd December. Mr Ronald Cross, Minister of Shipping, informed the House of Commons that the first order for the construction of sixty cargo ships had been given to United States shipbuilders by the Admiralty. He added that old but serviceable vessels, including those belonging to the Maritime Commission, had been and will continue to be purchased from the United States.
