CARD PARTY AT POHARA PATRIOTIC EFFORT The fortnightly euchre tournament under the auspices of the Pohara Group of the Women's National Reserve held in the Pohara Social Hall was well attended. The prize winners were Mrs J. Grant and Mr C. Cross. Two special competitions were held, the winner* being Mr J. Richmond and Mr A. McFarlane. Supper was served by members of the group, the funds of which benefited to the extent of £3 6s as a result of the function.

WOMEN S NATIONAL RESERVE

TAKAKA BRANCH HOLDS STREET STALL The Takaka branch of the Women * Ntional Reserve conducted its monthly stall in Commercial street on Friday evening. An excellent range of produce of all descriptions had been donated and was quickly disposed of. the proceeds totalling over £lO. The ladies in charge of the stall were Mesdames A. H. Rose. J. Roche, H. Homan and B. Bell. The Christmas hamper competition, which has been in progress during the past three weeks and realised the very creditable sum of over £4O, was drawn during the interval at the Golden Bay Theatre pictures, the prize-winners being: Mr R. F. Hovenden, Puramahoi (ticket No. 365), 1; Mrs W. G. Gibbs, Waitapu (No. 254), 2; Mr G. Sowman, East Takaka (No. 735), 3. The Reserve wishes to thank all who donated cash or goods for the stall and the hampers and assisted in any way to make both efforts so outstandir ly successful.

TAKAKA BRANCH OF WOMEN’S DIVISION

MONTHLY MEETING At the monthly meeting of the Takaka branch of the Women’s Division, the president (Mrs J. H. Small) presided over a poor attendance, seasonal work no doubt accounting lor the inability ot many members to be present. The meeting opened with the reading of the Creed and the singing of the National Anthem. Motions expressing sympathy with Mesdames O. Roberts and Nelson Dods’on in their recent bereavement were carried in silence. It was decided to forward donations of Is from each financial member to the Women’s Division Rest Home at Palmerston North. The motto for the month was: "If you can't pull, push, if you can't push, please get out of the way.” The roll call, “The Uses of Salt,” was well responded to and provided members with some valuable hints. Competitions resulted as follows: Best bloom. Mrs F. Hambrook, I; Mrs D. J. Hambrook, 2; Mrs H. Homan, 3. Best arranged vase of flowers, Mrs Homan, 1; Mrs A. H. Newlove, 2; Mrs D. J. Hambrook, 3. A special competition was won by Miss A. L. Baigent. The hostesses, Mesdames D. Papps and F. Rose, served afternoon tea.
