MOTUEKA CRICKET

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS SATURDAY’S MATCHES Club championship matches in the Motueka Cricket Association were resumed on Saturday afternoon. MOTUEKA V. RIWAKA At the Motueka Cricket Ground the seniors commenced their match with Riwaka, the latter opening with an innings of 107. The main contributor was > R. Fowler 30. H. Smith obtained the j best, bowling average with five wickets ! for 24. Motueka made a poor response and j were dismissed for 48, the wickets j being divided between C. Askew and J. j Holyoake. At stumps Riwaka had 74 ! on the board for the loss of six wickets. ) Particulars of the play are as fol- ; lows:—

Bowling: J. Gaskell took no wickets for 28 runs, H. Smith five for 24, E. Ryder three for 21, E. Bisley none for 18, R. Taylor none for 10.

Bowling: C. Askew took six wickets for 13 runs, J. Holyoake four for 31.

BROOKLYN V. MOUTERE , Brooklyn opened their match with * Upper Moutere on the latter’s ground and scored 152 runs. J. Fowler 31, H. ) Burrows 30 and D. Dobbie 24 were the • best individual knocks. ; Moutere replied with 124 for the loss ] of four wickets. At stumps L. Sixtus ] and P. Fowler were still going strong ] with 63 and 36 runs respectively to j their credit. Scores were as follows:

L Ulew XOA Bowling: I. Higgins took four, wickets for 40 runs, L. Sixtus one for 24, P. Fowler one for 22. M. Johnston none for 14, T. Drogemuller three for 24.

INNINGS WIN FOR POKORORO At Whakarewa on Saturday Pokororo ! defeated the home team by an innings • and 18 runs. j Pokororo had first strike, and scored I 123, the principal contributors being D. ' Thomas 50, N. Cole 26 and A. Heath 1 18. The bowlers were: M. Inwood four j for 12. M. Bisley one for 10, and Eginton j one for 10. Whakarewa collapsed under the i bowling of Cole and Tomlinson, and I were dismissed for 29. M. Bisley with | 8 was the best scorer. N. Cole took six 1 wickets for 16, and I. Tomlinson four | for 11. Following on Whakarewa made ! 76, H. Eginton 32, and R. Eginton not i out 12. The bowlers were: I. Tomlinj son two for 37, N. Cole seven for 28, I and C. Holyoake one for 5.
