RUSSIAN ATTACK
ALLEGED BY JAPAN ACTIVITY NEAR HALCHA RIVER STUBBORN RESISTANCE in.PA.-By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] TOKIO, 27th August. The Domei news agency reports that two Russian divisions and three tank brigades crossed the Halcha River on Thursday, after which there was heave fighting. The attack is believed to have been designed to prove Russia a strength in the face of the new European situation. The Russians manoeuvred to the Japanese flank, meeting with a stubborn resistance. The army spokesman said that Japan is determined to give the enemy • fatal blow.
