HUNTED WILD BOAR
WITH BOW AND ARROW ENGLAND’S No. 1 BOWMAN lily Air Mail—Special Correspondent! LONDON, sth August. A tea planter in India, who took up archery as a hobby 5 years ago, has become England’s Bowman No. 1. He is Mr A. 11. Mole, of Horsham, Sussex. Just before taking part in the world’s archery championship at Oslo, he caused a sensation at Oxford by a record score. In a double ‘York Round” he recorded 1234 points only 17 less than the most famous archer since Robin Hood, Horace Ford, scored 1859. Before that no one had come within 200 points of Ford’s record. A ‘‘York Round” consists of shooting 144 arrows; six dozen at 100 yards, four dozen at 80 yards and two dozen at 60 yards. "Archery is the cleanest and finest sport in the world,” Mr Mole said this week, “and without doubt it is the most fascinating. I know dozens of men who have been keen golfers until they took up archery—and then they have given up their golf! Archery is ideal for women, and possibly a reason why they are taking it up more and more is because it makes fo'- graceful poise; it is also an ideal keep-fit exercise, developing, as nothing else can, the muscles of the back and chest.”
Mr Mole used to go hunting with the bow. Once he “bagged” a 2721 b boar, shooting it through the back of the neck and killing it instantly.
