GOLDEN BAY V. MURCHISON ! HARD-FOUGHT GAME Exceptional weather favoured the re-’ i presentative Rugby match between Goli den Bay and Murchison, played at j Murchison on Saturday. Windle kicked off for Bay, and Haase ; led up the field, where Bay was penali ised for an offence. A series of scrums ! at half-way saw hard rucking, and the |ball came to Taylor who passed to • Sheilock. Sheilock kicked into touch. Murchison instigated a fast rush, but I were penalised on their own 25. Busch's ! kick failed. j From the drop-out Bay forwards ' pressed hard, and Murchison were j again penalised. Busch's kick failed. A scrum following the drop-out saw •! Haase cut in, but was brought down * [five yards from the line. From a scrum. ! a nice back movement by Bay saw the ! ball pass from Haase, to Sheilock, to | Mitchell, but Murchison gained possesj sion and. with a long kick, put the ball l out at the Bay 25. From the line-out, 1 j the ball went to Riley who found the line at half-way. Windle secured from ‘ the line-out. and set the Bay in action. *! At this stage Murchison was penalised. . Riley's kick failed. Following the 25 drop-out. a scrum formed and Haase | I tried to cut in, but failed. Murchison! 1 sent the ball to the 25 line, where it was f secured by Mitchell who scored by 5 smartly cutting in on three players. Bush’s kick failed.

Bay 3 | Murchison 0 i Murchison dropped out the baJl, ! Burridge securing and passing to Sheli lock, who stab-kicked, Windle leading | the Bay forwards in a fast follow-up. Murchison was awarded a penalty. From the kick, fast following up by the Murchison forwards created a dangerous situation, which Prince relieved by an infield kick. From the ruck, Bay kick through and Murchison forced. From the drop-out Taylor secured the ball, sending it back into Murchison territory, Graham relieving. A series of scrums at half-wov, and the ball went out at the 25. Bay pressed hard and Murchison was penalised inside their own 25. Riley's kick found the line about five yards out. From the line out Murchison secured the ball, and kicked out at half-way. Bay pressed hard and Sheilock found the line. Murchison secured from the line out. sending well into Bay territory, the ball being taken by Riley who sent the Bay backs in motion, but Murchison intercepted. From the drop-out Prince look the ball in Murchison 25 when good defensive play saved Murchison. Forward play brought the ball to Bay territory, where a knock-on occurred. Bay secured the ball from the scrum, it going to Haase and Taylor, but the , movement broken down and Murchison j secured to save by a line kick. HalfI time score:—

Bay 3 Murchison 0 At this stage there were three replacements: Ballantyne replaced Windle, Skilton replaced Riley, and Davies replaced Prince. Bay attack from the kick off, Downie saving. Murchison kicked through to Bay 25, Taylor kicking and following up fast, brought the play right up into Murchison territory and Murchison carried back. Murchison secured from the scrum, attempted to work the blind, and failed. The ball was sent into midfield where it

was secured by Taylor who started a dribbling rush, and play was brought back to Murchison territory. From a line-out Mitchell went over to score for Bay. Busch’s kick failed. Bay 6 Murchison 0 From the drop out Taylor led a dribbling rush, Bay being forced out at the Murchison 25. Sheilock secured but a dropped pass enabled Murchison to bring play near to the Bay line. A gcod kick by Skilton put the ball out at half-way. Brown leading the Murchison pack, brought play back to Bay territory, and Skilton relieved. Bay j brought the play back, Downie reliev- J

From the line out Murchison sent | the ball well down into Bay territory. ! but a series of kicks brought play ! back to the Murchison line.
