A > reply was awaited from South Africa. The South African team had been asked to arrive in Australia about the middle of June or perhaps the end of June when they would be expected to tcur New Zealand. The Australian school lour of New Zealand in 1940 had also been considercq. and, while the Australian association was in agreement with the principle, it could not undertake the tour 'during 1940. but would give the subject ; further consideration for a toru during | 1941. i The council decided to reply that it j was interested in the South African tour, and would be glad to have partij culars of the cost. I Alleging inconsistency on the part of I the council, the South Auckland Foot- | ball Association wrote withdrawing its j challenge for the Brown Shield, and asking for a refund of the challenge The secretary said that Manawatu. having played and beaten Wanganui, it was now easier for South Auckland to play, if they desired to do so, by withdrawing their protest. Mr H. H. R. Renai said that the letter was a protest at the action of the council in allotting the first challenge to Manawatu. It was decided to ask South Auckland to reconsider its decision.
