PIG BREEDERS’ ASSOCIATION

ELECTION OF OFFICERS REGISTRATION SCHEME DISCUSSED (United Press Association] WHANGAREI, This Day. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Pig Breeders’ Association Mr James Simpson was elected unopposed as South Island representative. Mr H. T. Thurston was selected by lot as representative of the Wellington North Ward after tieing with Mr Bickers; and Mr G. Jamieson was re-elected for South Auckland; Mr G. S. Ross was reappointed president and Mr G. M. Whitclock (Palmerston North) and Mr I. G. M.orrison (Whangarei), vice-presi-dents. The following form the executive : Messrs H. L. West, H. T. Thurston, and D. M. Whitelock. The embargo on the importation of pigs was criticised by the president, who considered that English quarantine conditions were a sufficient safeguard. The advanced registration scheme proposed by the Government was discussed and the opinion expressed that the Government should bear the expense, as it was collecting a levy on pigs. Strong exception was taken to a suggestion that pigs offered at a private stud pig breeder’s sale should be inspected and passed before being sold. It was resolved that the incoming council circulate among branches a scheme that could be easily operated.
