VICTORIAN PARLIAMENT
PRINCIPAL LEGISLATION THIS SESSION [Fi mi Our Own Parliamentary Ilepo-t.er] MELBOURNE, 28th June. The principal items in the legislative programme of the Victorian Parliamentary session, which opened today, include a measure to place the finances of public hospitals on a more satisfactory basis, the prevention of sweating in industry, compulsory thirdparty acquisition of lands to facilitate settlement. Taxation will either be increased or the incidence readjusted to produce more revenue. The proceeds will be earmarked for hospitals and charitable purposes. Legislation will also be introduced providing for disqualification of municipal councillors and members of Parliament if they are shareholders of companies comprising fewer than 51 members and if such companies are contractors for government and municipal works.
