RITUAL CONTEST | The annual ritual contest between j the Takaka and Motueka Lodges took j place, and the first stage was completed j when the judges visited Takaka on Satj urrlav last. The final took place at | Motueka on Tuesday. Both Lodges took j advantage of the occasion by exchangI ing visits of members. At Takaka, the district officers made an official visjt i headed by Bro. Nolan Cook D.G.M.. J Bro. C. P. Rcillv. Deputy D.G.M.. Bro. W. A. Quayle. treasurer, and Bro. S. B. : Canavan, D.S. ' The contest was run on different lines j this year. Formerly both teams met on the same evening in the same lodge This year the judges visited each lodge on its ordinary meeting night, and the Lodges were appointed marks on the conduct of the business portion of the meeting, as well as the actual ritual. Points were awarded for conduct of members in the audience. The result was a close win for Motueka by 296' points against 289 for Takaka. The judges were Bros. Nolan Cook. D.G.M.. T. O. Chittenden, P.D.G.M., and S. B. Canavan. D.S. In announcing the result Bro. Cook congratulated both Lodges on the excellent standard of their work, and the .winners on the evenness of their perj formance There were several minor j mistakes, but the meaning of the sen- | tences were not altered. The various lectures were rendered practically word perfect by both Lodges, thus showing the keenness of the participants in their work. At the close of each presentation each Lodge entertained their visitors hospitably and engaged in games of brtwls, cards, etc. The district officers were welcomed at Takaka by Sister N. Humphreys, and thanks were returned for the welcome by Bro. N Cook. Quite a feature of the visit to Takaka was a spirited discussion around the supper table on various topics, many of the younger members taking part.
