Calinescu, told Parliament that Rumania was rearming on a scale hitherto unknown, while large scale frortifications were being erected to protect the frontiers. Nil* Calinescu declared that Rumania’s frontiers were unalterable, and that the troops were being instructed in the use of the new armaments, of which Rumania had acquired vast quantities. More than £5.000,000 had been spent on the Quadrimester fortifications on the Hungarian frontier and a total of £58,000,000 in war materials, including the latest type of machine-guns and field guns. Military aviation also had been greatly strengthened. The army was concentrated on the borders, with orders to match if necessary in order to maintain the integrity of the country.
