COUNCILLOR A. 11. ROSE RE-ELEC-TED CHAIRMAN TRIBUTE PAID TO SERVICES Councillor H. Rose was re-elected chairman at the annual meeting of the 'lekaka County Council to-day. When the county clerk took the chair Councillor Rose said it had been a pleasure to be associated with councillors. He proposed Councillor Sparrow for the year. He had a splendid grip of all the council business. Councillor Manson seconded the motion. He also felt it was a good thing for the chairmanship to go round. Councillor Sparrow said Councillor Rose had done well, and should be reelected chairman.

Councillor Walker seconded. He agreed with Councillor Manson that the office should go round, but one year was hardly long enough Councillor Sparrow said everything had gone on smoothly during the past year. It was, in fact, the be.it year he had had on the council. While he appreciated the remarks made he would definitely withdraw. Councillor Page said it was a pity for Councillor Rose to go out on one year. He agreed on the office going round, but not so quickly. Councillor Rose was unanimously reelected. It was decided that the chairman be paid £25 in lieu of travelling expenses for the past year. Councillor Rose said he felt he was not entitled to that amount, but couneillore were insistent
