The Japanese claim that the Chinese lost 8600 in recent fighting in the Shansi province, wjicre cleaning up operations have been successfully completed and that 1674 Chinese were taken prisoner. UNIVERSITY BOMBED WIFE OF AMERICAN PROFESSOR INJURED CASUALTIES AMONG CITIZENS (Received 13th June. 10 a.m.) CHUNGKING, 12th June. Japanese planes bombed the West l China Union University at Chengtu, killing eight Chinese students, injuring the wife of an Professor Liljestrand, and inflicting 500 casualties among the citizens.
