STOKE DEFEAT REDWOOD’S VALLEY The first of the season's inter-club matches took place at Redwood’s Valley on Saturday, when Stoke defeated the local team by four matches to two. Conditions were ideal for golf, despite a cold southerly. The state of the links, stated Mr Pitts-Brown, the Stoke captain. in his remarks at the close of the games, had proved illuminating to his team-mates and they were truly envious of the conditions existing at Redwood's Valley. He thanked the members of the local team for their hospitality, especially those ladies who had tendered a most welcome afternoon tea. The results were as follows, Stoke being first-mentioned : Chisnall and Thomason defeated Dodds and Stewart 5 and 4. Black and Douglas lost to Robinson and Reay 5 and 4 Reeves and Barton defeated Clark and Grigg 5 and 4. Harris and Lee defeated Newman and Cuthbertson 1 up. McLaren and Fair lost to H. and L Challies 2 down. Pitts-Brown and Johnson defeated Andrews and Simms 5 and 4.
