ASSOCIATION COMMITTEE

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee of the Nelson A. and P. Association was attended by Messrs C. R. button 'president) in the chair. E. H. Harkness, ,G. W. Best, J. G. Ingram. H. F. Palmer, R. H. Hammond, W. Martin. A. E. Max, L. A. Higgins, P. ,S. Haycock, Ray Haycock, J. Biggar. A. C. Challies, J. Hildyard. L. P. Russ, F. R. Berryman. D. S. ; Max, G. W. Wilkes, A. N. Wilkinson, M. Rogers. A. J. Croucher, N. L. Kerr, P- C. Hurst. Apologies were received from Messrs .G. L. Mead, F. C. Page, A. G. Griffin ; and W. Hill. New members were elected as follows: G. P. Dickson, Wakapuaka; Reliance Engineering Co.. Port Nelson; R. J. York, Motueka: Alf. Robinson, Nelson; E. Dalhon, Seddon; A. G. Moore, Waimea West; G. Hanron, Brightwater; K. Frost, c/o Loan and Mercantile. NelCORRESPONDENCE The secretary Toe H asked for the use of the Produce Shed for wrestling and boxing during the coming winter months. It, was resolved that the club be allowed the use of the shed on the same terms as the Rifle Club. The secretary Jersey Cattle Club wrote stating that the club was donating £5 in prize money in the butterfat and production type class at the next show. The club is to be thanked for its generous donation. The Nelson District Secretary, Young Farmers’ Club, asked the Association to nominate one member to the club’s district committee. The president was appointed to the position. The secretary New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Association wrote enclosing cheque for £2 10s as a subsidy to the prize money in milking shorthorn classes at the Show. The Association is to be thanked for its generosity. The secretary, Nelson Master Bakers’ and Pastrycooks’ Association wrote stating that the Association would be glad to interest itself in the bakers’ entries at the forthcoming show and that a donation towards the prize-list would be made.

REPORTS OF SCHEDULE STEWARDS ! Reports were presented by the schedule stewards appointed at last meet- ! ing. These were discussed at length by the committee and in most cases the recommendations are to be incorporated in the next schedule. FIELD COMPETITIONS The question of field competitions was discussed at length. Mr Max moved that the competitions be discontinued as there was very little support. Mr Palmer considered that the competitions should be continued for at least another year and Mr Higgins supported. It was finally resolved that the competitions be held during the coming season. REPORTS The Ground and Finance Committee reported that the question of permanent sheep pens had been fully discussed, and it had been decided that the condition of the finances did not warrant the erection of pens. However, the committee recommended the planting of further trees for shelter. UNPAID SUBSCRIPTIONS The secretary stated that notices were being sent to memebers whose subscriptions were unpaid and these would be followed by a personal interview. OFFICE HOURS The Richmond office of the Association is to be opened on Friday afternoons from 2 p.m, to 4 p.m. and any business may be transacted at the secretary’s Nelson office in the Waimea County Council building. THE NEXT SHOW It was resolved that the next Show be held on 17th and 18th November. TREE-PLANTING Mr P. C. Hurst suggested a comprehensive tree-planting on the Show Ground, on the lines of a scheme which had been suggested by Mr White, the Nelson City Council’s Curator of Gardens and Reserves. It was resolved on Mr J. G. Ingram’s motion that the report be given effect to. Mr Ingram stated that it was not only a question of shelter, but the Association owed a duty to posterity.
