TWO FELLOWSHIPS AWARDED

NEW ZEALAND PUBLIC SERVANTS < HONOURED l Two Commonwealth Fund Service Fel- 1 lowships have been awarded this year to 1 members of the New Zealand Public Ser- ! vice—one to Mr D. W. Woodward. 1 M.Com., A.R.A.N.Z., A.1.A.N.Z., of the Department of Industries and Commerce, and the other to Mr H. L. Hume. B.E.* ' 8.5. c., Assoc.M.lnst.C.E., Assoc.M.N.Z.’ | 1.E., of the Public Works Department. This is a particularly high honour for tho 1 Dominion, for only five fellowships are ' awarded anually to members of the permanent cadres holding appointments o\er- j seas under the British Government, the Goveriunent of India, or the Government of a British Dominion, colony, protector- , ate or mandated territory. , The Commonwealth Fund of New York ■ a philanthropic foundation existing since I 1918 and supported by gifts from the late Mrs Stephen V. Hark ness, has established ! for British subjects a number of fellow- < ships tenable at American universities. In ! creating these Comonwealth Fund fellow. < ships the directors of the fund have been ; impelled by a belief in the value of inter- ’ national opportunities for education and]' travel, and by a conviction that mutual ' amity and understanding between Great 1 Britain and the United States will thereby ‘ be promoted. The fellowships are under ' tho patronage of His Majesty King George ’
