OBITUARY
MR GEORGE FAWCETT 'I he death occurred at Nelson recently after a painful illness, of Mr George Fawcett, who was born at Tadmor in 1872 Upon the family removing to Foxhill, he attended the local school, a schoolmate at the time being the late Lord Rutherford. After leaving school, he found employment with Hunt Bros, of 88 Valley, with whom he stayed for a considerable time. Later on, he moved to the North Island where h« engaged in various pursuits. The late Mr Fawcett was a lover of nature and a keen obsrver. Acquiring a good knowledge of mineralogy, he became a reliable prospector. He was, also, an ardent student of the flora of the district. Re was always interested in the Maori race and its culture, and implements collected by him have been donated to the nation. He bore a reputation fo“* integrity, kindness and generosity, while callers at bis home were sure of a warm welcome.
Mr Fawcett was an elder in the Nelson Apostolic Church, in whose activities he loved to share, when health permitted. He leaves a wife, who was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Qumney, and a family of four sons and a daughter—Melvin, Reginald, Ivor, Winnie and John, all resident here, who, with a wide circle of friends, mourn his passing.
