Mr D. I. Mr Llewellin considered that the Association had reached the limit, and the schedule, if amended, should not be increased. WOOD CHOPPING COMPETITION Mr C. Blake said he was curious to know what the wood chopping competition had cost the Association at the last show. The secretary admitted that it had been an expensive item on the programme. He was, he said, not in a position to give full particulars at the moment would also do so when the schedule was being prepared. Mr A. G. Green thought that as the Association had now reached its fifth year the purchase of a show ground should be considered. This is most gratifying, but we hope for a still further increase and I would like to ask members to give all possible assistance in this matter.

"The balance sheet shows a surplus of £l4 odd for the year. Although this amount seems small I think that when we compare it with results achieved by other associations this year, we should be gratified to come out with a credit balance.

“In spite of the fact that the balance is not large I am sure yoh will all agree that the Motpeka A. and P. Association has been of great service to the whole province. This is noticeable in the improved standard of stock shown at our show and seen throughout the Motueka district in particular. “One of the biggest problems of the farming community to-day is that of rapidly increasing costs. An improvement of our stock combined with an increase in production would go a long way to counteract difficulty and our own show is an incentive in this direction. For this reason alone its successful continuance is essential to

“May I ask for more co-operation from the business section of Motueka? I refer particularly to representation on the show committee. I recognise the assistance already given by them in the way of trophies and advertisements in our schedule and catalogue and for these we are most grateful, but we would like our committee to be representative of all sections of the community.

“In conclusion may I thank the vicepresident, past president, secretary, treasurer, executive and committee for making my term of office an enjoyable one. I would especially like to thank the ladies of the various committees for the valuable assistance they have on every occasion. I also wish to all who helped on show day to make the show the success it undoubtedly was and trust that this year wiU see the show even more firmly established.” Mr R. Mr Teece, in returning thanks, said he hoped he would fulfill his duties to the satisfaction of the Association. The organisation had only been in existence for five years but was entitled to call its next show a Centennial Show, and to be in line with similar associations should make a special effort on this occasion. Something, however, would he said have to be done to improve the financial position, and he suggested a stock drive as a good means of raising money.

Mr Teece said that he believed in punctuality, and would do his best to be on time, and expressed the hope th/at members would att’end meetings regularly and punctually. Mr D. I. Llewellin thanked members for electing him as vice-president. Mr R. Teece in moving a vote of thanks to the retiring president said Mr Canton had caried out his duties in a manner that had been a credit to himself and to the Association. He had been the youngest member of any A. and P. Association in New Zealand to be elected as president. The motion was seconded by the chairman and carried by acclamation. Mr Canton briefly returned thanks for the kind remarks.
