Reports of the year's work were given by Mrs Hildyard (president); Mrs Hodge (secretary and treasurer); Mrs Taplin (housekeeper secretary); Mrs Robinson on hospital visiting and representation on the Crippled Children’s Society. Election of officers resulted: President, Mrs J. Hildyard; vice-presidents, Mesdames Corder, Robinson, Inwood, and Berryman; secretary and treasurer, Mrs Hodge; housekeeper secretary, Mrs Taplin; committee, Mesdames Baigent, Beuke, and Miss Robinson. Delegates to Conference: Mesdames Hildyard, Taplin, Inwood and Hodge; trustees, Mesdames Forsyth and Hodge; hon. auditor, Mr E. Allnatt; Girls’ Educational Week committee, Mesdames Hildyard, Forsyth, Corder, Beuke, Taplin, Baigent, Robinson, Hodge. The president (Mrs Hildyard) in her annual report said: “I have much pleasure in presenting the sixth annual report of the Nelson Provincial Executive of the W.D.F.U.

“Four well attended ordinary meetings were held during the year. It was necessary to call two special meetings, the first being for the purpose of meeting Miss Hazel Johnston, to discuss her forthcoming lecture tour, of the province, during July and August of this year; while the second was in honour of the visit of our Dominion president, Mrs Wickham. The latter has since expressed her thanks to you all, for the many, well-attended meetings arranged during her stay in Nelson. “Two new branches were formed, one at Appleby and another at Golden Downs. We congratulate the officer and members thereof and wish them happy and successful meetings.

“Girls’ Educational Session was held from 2nd to sth August inclusive, when girls and committee members alike, enjoyed the comprehensive programme, arranged by Mrs Hoddy. “The dressmaking scheme was inaugurated in July, when seventeen branches participated. We are fortunate in having the services of Miss Margaret Monk as tutor. Numbers of her pupils have expressed themselves deeply grateful to her; and to the W.D.F.U. for providing the opportunity of learning home dressmaking. “The September meeting was held in the W.D.F.U. hall, Motueka, when the president and delegates reported on Conference.

“We are greatly indebted to the members of the Motueka branch, for the enjoyable meals provided for delegates. “Diaries were again printed for .the executive; but sales were disappointing. May I here remind members that any profit from the above would provide a small income for the Provincial Executive to carry out the work undertaken on your behalf, and thus prevent the necessity of holding garden parties, or similar functions. The burden of the latter method of raising funds generally falls heavily upon one or two branches.

“The W.D.F.U. Rest Home, near Palmerston North is now filled with guests, proving the need for an institution of this nature. It has been found necessary to levy Is per member per annum, but we feel sure that members will gladly respond to this request for additional financial assistance. The Rest Home is intended as part of the W.D.F.U. Centennial Memorial to the Pioneer Women of New Zealand, and

as such, should commend itself to members. “Your executive was well represented at the Dominion Conference, and also at the meetings held under the auspices of the Pan Pacific Association. We owe much to our vice president, Mrs Corder, for her work on our behalf. She is our representative on the local committee of the P.P.A. and we wish most sincerely to thank her.

“I would like to record our grateful thanks and appreciation of the valuable work done for this executive by our worthy secretary, Mrs Hodge, who has had a very strenuous year; and also to our housekeeper secretary, Mrs Taplin, for her continuous work, under great difficulties, in connection with the Housekeepers. We are indeed fortunate in having the willing services of both officers.

“I wish to thank all my officers and delegates for their assistance at all times, and trust that they'will continue to extend the same measure of hearty co-operation in the future. Our thanks are due to the Mayor and Mayoress, Mrs Atmore, Miss Stewart and staff of the Girls College, Mrs Moncrieff, the hon. auditor (Mrs Allnatt), the press for unfailing courtesy, and all who assisted us during the year. In conclusion 1 ask you to extend your loyal support to all your branch officers, and wish you all a successful year.
