COLD AND CHANGEABLE The weather is predicted to be cold and changeable with passing showers and possibly hail, and snow on the ranges. A cold snap was experienced in Nelson during the week-end, with the barometer falling to the lowest level for a If ng time, 29.3 yesterday. Saturday remained fine, though only 4 h >urs 35 minutes’ sunshine was recorded, with a frost of nearly three degrees that night. Cold rain fell early yesterday morning, ana these snow showers continued at intervals during the day, and totalled 30 points. At the same time the Maungatfpu. the Dun and Wooded Peak received coatings of snow as well as the ranges to the east and west. A picturesque covering of snow also covered the Lajce Rotoiti district. With snow all around last night was the coldest so far this winter, almost 7 cegrees of frost being registered at the Cawthron Institute, and over 6 at Redwood’s Valley. The usual sunny conditions after a frost failed to eventuate to-day, the sky clouding over soon after sunrise, and the rest of the day was overcast and raw. j j
