RETAIL PRICES OF MEAT IN LONDON i —• — ! The Meat Board has been advised by j its London office that the following retail prices were being quoted for New Zealand lamb and mutton retailed in , London during May. These prices represent a fair average of the prices quoted by the better class shops in London for the best quality:— New Zealand lamb: Legs, 12d a lb: shoulders, lid; loins, lid; necks, 6d; : breasts, 3d; forequarters, 8d; hindquar--1 ters, 10>}d. ! New Zealand mutton (wethers): Legs. 8d a lb; shoulders, 7d; loins, 7d: necks, j 3d; breasts, 2d. jCANTERBURY PRODUCE MARKETS | Uniteil A-wviario.il CHRISTCHURCH, 9th June. There has been little change in the Canterbury grain, seed and produce markets. Potatoes are, if anything, a shade easier, although the quotation to farmers remains nominally about £8 to £8 10s. Growers have been offering a little more freely. Two large shipments from Lyttelton should be available next week in Auckland, where stocks are re- ! ported to be fairly short. The Waikoua- i iti took 8200 bags from Lyttelton and Timaru. ChafT and oats are unchanged. There has been little activity in small seeds. Most of the offerings from the country have eased, and there has been no inquiry from overseas.

SHEEPSKINS AND HIDES There was keen competition for the large offering of sheepskins and hides at the sale held yesterday by the Wellington brokers. Sheepskins: Sound-pelted, full- j woolled lines showed little change on j last sale’s rates, but short wools and pelts were about £d to Jd a lb lower. Hides: Light and medium ox were unchanged, with heavy grades Id lower. Cow hides, also kip and yearling, showed an improvement of l-8d to Id a lb, while calf were Id to id better. The range of prices is as follows: Dry sheepskins: Halfbred, sid to 83d; fine crossbred, 7ld to 9d; medium crossbred, 6d to 9d; coarse crossbred, 61d to 9d; half-wools, s]d to B.Jd; quarter-wools, 43d to Gsd; pelts, l£d to 33d. Salted skins: Half-wools, to 3s 6d. Hides: Ox, 331 bto 441 b, s£d to 5 7-8 d; 451 b to 521 b, 6d to 6id; 531 b to 591 b, 4 3-8 d to 6 3-8 d; 601 b to 691 b, to 6 3-8 d; 701 b and over, 6d to 6 5-Bd. Cow, 331 b to 391 b, 3£d to 6 l-8d; 401 b to 481 b, 4 l-8d to 5 7-8 d; 491 b and over, 43d to 6 l-Bd. Kip, 251 bto 321 b, 4 5-8 d to 6 3-8 d; 171 b to 241 b, 5 l-8d to 7 3-Bd. Sundries: Cow tails, B£d to 9Ad a dozen; horse hair, 21d a lb. PRICES OF METALS LONDON, Bth June.
