While the fate of nations is being j decided, the talk of Berlin and other I capitals is Herr Hitler's fascination for ! a 19-year-old American dancer, Miriam 1 Verne. He again attended her performance in “The Merry Widow” on May 22—his tenth visit. Interviewed by phone by the London Daily Sketch the following day. Miss Verne shyly said: “Hitler is such a great I man that 1 was frightened when I first met him. But I admi ■ him tremendously “I am only an artist; he is so important. I almost thin’ that I love him I daren't say more. “Do I think he loves me? What a question. He honours me, admiring my dancing.” Hitler also met Miss Verne at parties, j He accompanied her to the Artists’ Club j after her performance. They have now met eight times in three weeks. Miss Verne, admit ing that she makes j uu, says that Hitler has no objection to it. “He complimented me upon my looks.” she says—although previously he had condemned'co • etics. According to her. Hitler discusses : plays, music and her dancing.
