PUBLIC SERVICE
TEMPORARY EMPLOYEES (I'nitei) Press Association] WELLINGTON, This Day. Amending regulations have been gazetted dealing with the engagement and discharge of temporary employees! in the Public Service. Temporary | workmen or employees required by any j department can be engaged and discharged by the holders for the time be- ; ing of offices appointed by the Public I Service Commissioner. It was explained by the Public Service Commissioner Mr T. Mark, that the clause was purely of a machinery nature in order to give the regulations greater flexibility of operation. Instead of specifically empowering each 1 and every officer to appoint temporary hands at the time the hai.ds were needed, the new regulations gave the commissioner power to appoint a list of departmental officers who could con- | trol such appointments as they were necessary. Asked if the new regulations were in any way connected with the recent agitation by temporary Public Service employees for improved condi- , tions. Mr Mark said that there was no connection whatsoever.
