ANNUAL MEETING YEARS ACTIVITIES REVIEWED The annual meeting of the parishioners of the Cathedral Parish of Christ Church, Nelson, was held this week. Messages of greetings were received from the Bishop and from the All Saints’ parishioners.

The Vicar, the Very Rev. P. B. Haggitt, re-appointed Mr T. E. Maunsell | his warden and the meeting re-elected j Mr A. R. Dyson People’s Warden. The i Dean spoke in high praise of the man- i ner in which the wardens had carried out their duties.

Messrs J. Oliver and Bernard West were elected to the vestry and the following re-elected: Messrs H. Hurst, T. A. Johnstone, W. Parr. N. Pavitt, G. Samuel, A. Thorn, Dr. Johnston and Col. Brereton.

The Churchwardens' report made reference to the honour conferred upon Sir Thomas Easterfield, to the passing of Messrs H. M. Field and T. Usher, and to the ready help given by voluntary workers during the year. Regarding finance: "We are pleased to report j an increase in ordinary offertories of j £l3 18s 9d. The need of a more set-! tied income per medium of the envelope scheme still exists. To those who belong thereto we express our appreciation and would gladly welcome other subscribers. We congratulate the parish on the very satisfactory response made on behalf of Home and Foreign Missions. We again tender our thanks for the valued assistance of the Ladies’ Saving Guild and the Mite Society. The former allocated substantial amounts to missions and in reduction of principal and interest on Sunday School Loan. The Mite Society, who desire to thank their subscribers, allocated their income towards the interest and principal calls on Vicarage Loan.” Regarding the Sunday School Loan the report stated that it had been reduced to £345, and that a further opportunity of reducing the principal would be given on 15th May. “W’e commend this to the attention of those j who have kindly promised an annual contribution and to others who would welcome the opportunity of donating something towards further reducing the liability.”

The financial statement showed a credit balance of £8 Is sd.

The following were elected to represent the parish on the Diocesan Synod during the next tllrce years: Messrs T. E. Maunseli, G. Samuel and H, Hurst. The Dean stated that Sir Thomas Easterfield had intimated that he did not seek re-election. Sir Thomas Easterfield had been a member of Synod since 1920, said the Dean, and had rendered valuable service in that capacity. His absence would be a distinct loss.

The Rev. E. H. Newman gave a report of the work being done among the young people and made an appeal for more men helpers in Sunday School and Scout work.

In his address the Dean expressed gratitud; for the co-operation o fall who had rendered service during the year, including those who had attended the 4672 acts of Communion had been made at the Cathedral and the Wood Mission, congregations at all Services had increased; 22 children had been baptised and 6 adults: 82 had been confirmed and 13 couples married.

The Dean spoke in high appreciation of the Mothers’ Union as a worldwide institution of very great value and influence, standing for the safeguarding of the sanctity of home and marriage. All over Christendom it was doing a great work. The Cathedral branch had a membership of 97. The enrolling member and her committee had rendered splendid service during the year.

Referring to the Wood Mission, the Dean said he had celebrated the Holy Communion on the second and fourth Sundays and that the average attendance was 15. There was a flourishing Sunday School there also. To the teachers and to those who attended to the sanctuary he expressed gratitude.
