NEW STATE MINE
CONTRACT SYSTEM OF WORK lUnited Pres* Association) GREYMOUTH, 9th May. An agreement has been ratified for conditions of employment at the new State Mine, the Strongman Colliery. The mine so far has been developed on day wages, but will open next week on the contract system. The present capacity of the mine is 60 tons a day. This is expected to increase to 100 tons. The conditions are similar to the Dobson mine agreement, which continues until next December. Twentyfour men are at present employed, but an increase is expected as the mine is developed. Completion of the new binns is expected in July.
