BOROUGH AFFAIRS MEETING OF COUNCIL A meeting of the Richmond Borough j Council was held oil Saturday evening. I Present: The Mayor (Mr -V li. Tuffnell . Coun illors Norris, McGlashen, Lukey. Palmer. Before proceeding with the business j the Mayor referred to the sad loss sus- 1 tamed by the Borough's Health Inspector Mr 11. Colt man) through the untimely death of his son. I'OUEMAN'S REPORT I he foreman's report was read and adopted as follows: The formation of the footpath in Cant bridge street has been completed, anj some fine gravel spread over the tilling. The south ride of Queen street has been built up with f inch chips and clay biding, and a sump put the qi ned for completing the other side. Ihe grader lias been worked on the State highway, Wenslev road. McShane's i ond, Lower Queen street, and Bateups road. The Lower Queen street ditch has been cleaned out. On the 14th iu»t. the water at the "rt-.-er'oir was four feet below the spillArising from the report, it was resolved that eight yards of three-quarter-inch chips be procured. CORRESPONDENCE The Main Highways Board intimated that members of the Board would be visiting the Nelson district from 26th April to Ist May, and would be pleased, if necessary, to meet a deputation from the Council to discuss matters of local interest at 4.45 p.m. on 26th April. A list of all matters the Council wished to discuss with the Board was asked to be forwarded prior to the visit. The Mayor stated that there were several matters of local interest which could be discussed, the foremost of which in his opinion were the prevention of llood waters entering the borough from the Waimea County, the top-dressing of Salisbury road and Gladstone road, and the declaring as a main highway the part of lower Queen street leading to the Show Grounds. It was resolved that these three matters be discussed and that the Mayor and Deputy-Mayor form a deputation for the purpose. The Minister of Internal Affairs notified that the following committee had been appointed for the borough under the Physical Welfare and Recreation Act, 1937: Messrs A. R. Tuff nell, M. H
