a decrease of outward of 1.494 tons. Total decrease 1,483 tons. Quite a large amount of inward cargo was received over the wharves during the past month, but the outward cargo ! received shows a decrease of 1,494 tons. This I may mention is due to the receiving of export fruit for shipment. During the month 78.157 cases were received through the sheds. During the I month of March in the preceding year. 125.690 cases were handled through the sheds, and there were also 15.544 cases transhipped from bay ports to the overseas vessel, thus showing the decrease of export fruit received. On the 12th March the overseas vessel Piako arrived in port. This vsesel had no inward cargo to discharge, but loaded 20.428 carcases of lamb. 969 carcases of pork. 113 bales of skins and wool, and 56 tons tallow, and sailed on the 15th of the month. Blanche) reported:— While export fruit shows a decided felling off for the month of March, local fruit shows an increase as compared with the corresponding month of last I year. The figures are as follows: — Export fruit. 105,526 cases (166,505): local fruit 13,761 cases (10,057); totals. 119.287 cases (176,562).
