TAKAKA GLEE CLUB

A PRESENTATION AND A FAREWELL MRS O. E. PAGE AND MRS T. C. WOOD GUESTS OF EVENING (From Our Takaka Correspondent) The members of the Takaka Glee Club met at the home of Mrs J. P. Cottier for the purpose of making a presentation to Mrs O. E. Page, the club’s secretary and pianist, in appreciation of the valuable services she had rendered, and to farewell Mr and Mrs T. C. Wood who will leave shortly on a six months’ tour of England and the Continent. Mrs Cottier and Miss Beardmore were hostesses for the club. The president of the club, Mr B. King, presented a beautiful woollen rug to Mrs Page and paid a warm tribute to the thorough manner in which (all her duties were carried out. In ali her work she was most enthusiastic and capable and much of the success of the club could be attributed to her efforts. The gift carried with it the appreciation and good wishes of every member of the club.

Opportunity was then taken of farewelling Mr and Mrs Wood on the eve of their departure for an extended holiday overseas, and on behalf of the members Mr King presented a fancy box of stationery to Mrs Wood, and expressed best wishes for an enjoyable holiday and a safe return to Tal | a. He referred to Mrs Wood’s work in the club and to her assistance as a contralto in the choir.

Mrs Page and Mrs Wood suitably replied, thanking the members for their good wishes and for the presentations.

Items were contributed by Mrs Wood, Mrs Roche, Mrs Stanton. Mrs Bell, Miss K. Wood, Miss Beardmore. Mrs Cottier, Mr Perry, Mr H. King, and Mr W. King. A very happy evening ended with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne ” A RECIPE FOR TO-DAY Spanish Apples. Take 6 large tart apples, 3oz castor sugar, loz butter, 1 dessertspoonful water, \ teaspoonful vanilla essence. Core and wipe the apples, then place them in a fireproof dish well buttered. Mix butter, sugar, and vanilla essence together with a wooden spon, then stuff the apples with the mixture. Sprinkle a little sugar over and pour water into dish. Bake for forty-five minutes, basting frequently. Serve hot.
