NOT WELCOME IN SPAIN
REFERENCE TO WITHDRAWAL OF ITALIANS BURGOS. 14th April. Official circles do not welcome Mr Chamberlain’s reference to the withdrawal of Italians from Spain, declaring that it is not a unilateral question as"between Britain nnd Italy. It is an offence to Spanish feelings.” it is stated, “to forget that General Franco, who has never broken his word, promised that the foreigners would be withdrawn after victory was achieved. Spanish pride is not taken into account if we are supposed to submit to or follow blindly any country, even one to which it. is closely attached. Spain is independent, and does not need protection. She has the strength and the right to carry out Spanish policy.” A semi-official communique states that no date has been fixed for the parade. The decision rests with Generali Franco.
