RUAKURA RESEARCH
STOCK ECZEMA DANGER lUniten Press Association' HAMILTON. 14th April. Although several minor outbreaks of facial eczema among stocks have occurred recently on farms throughout the Waikato, nothing of a serious nature has been reported. It has been thought that the cold nights which have been experienced lately and the bare pastures would be unfavourable to an outbreak of the disease. Research is being carried out at Ruakura. and the present cases may lead to new theories being advanced as to the cause of the disease. Experiments are being conducted with some of the infected sheep, and it is thought that new material for research may be discovered.
For some years, isolated cases of facial eczema have been reported in the Waikato, but the serious nature of the disease last year has led to extra precautions being taken.
