LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE •LONDON, 14th April, j Mr Chamberlain’s speech has not restored any immediate confidence in the Stock Exchange markets, which closed 1 raggedly. Gilt-edged securities have been further marked down and foreign bonds are weak. Home industrials are j generally lower. The Amsterdam Bourse is described as “very weak.’’ Leading securities are j down by 5 to 10 per cent. Business, under the double stimulus j of easy credit and rearmament, is still | on the upgrade, and the steel pro- ; duction in March with within a fraction of the record in autumn, 1937. Iron output is moving swiftly ahead, whiel the weekly rail traffic figures show substantial gains compared with last year. Naval activity prevented any substatnial fall in ship-building employment.
