FATAL FALL FROM HORSE • United Pchnh ArfHociailr.nl GISBORNE. 16th April. An accident near Whatatutu on Saturday afternoon resulted in the death ol Mr Clifford Smith, aged 28. manager of Mr G. M. Newman’s property. Oil Springs Creek. Mr Smith was j thrown from a horse and killed. The accident was witnessed by his wife who was powerless to help. Mr and Mrs Smith were watering their horses at a waterhole when Mr Smith's horse drew back suddenly, throwing his rider, who caught a foot in the stirrup and was dragged for half a mile downhill. His wife unsuccessfully tried to head off the bolting animal.
