APPLES AND PEARS DRY SPELL AFFECTS CROPS WELLINGTON, 14th April. Principally because of the dry season, New Zealand’s export of apples and pears this year will be only two-thirds : of last season’s total. With half the export season over, approximately half a million cases have been shipped, and it is estimated that there is approximately an equal quantity still to come forward. The total export for the season is estimated at 1,030,000 cases, against last year’s total of 1,526,000 cases. Up to 13th April of the present season the following quantities have been exported, figures for the corresponding period of last season being shown in parentheses:—Apples, 423,462 cases (708,262); pears, 77,504 (83,963); total, 500,966 cases (792,225). Of the above quantities 351,520 cases have been exported from Wellington this year, as against 524,048 for the corresponding portion of the previous season.
