THE DEFENCE LEAGUE

(To The Editor! Sir, —In your issue of yesterday yo» published a letter written by one who chooses to sign himself “The Society for Investigation of the Defence League.” It is obvious from the wording of the letter that the aforesaid society is comprised of one member only, i.e., the writer of the would-be destructive criticism.

May I suggest, as a member of the N.Z. Defence League, that such letters do—unintentionally perhaps—assist the cause of the League, by reminding many of us of the abuse that those whom we elect to do such work, as Colonel Lorimer has undertaken to do, gratuitously, lay themselves open to, when they accept office. Your correspondent, whom I shall call T.S.F.I.D.T.D.L. for the sake of brevity, is apparently not in acqord with the Defence League in its entirety; but at least we must give him credit for his believing that “the defence of New Zealand is a matter of the first importance.” That, in a nut shell, is the main plank in the Defence League’s platform. The next thing we want is people with ideas! By discarding his pen name, and, in place of it, forwarding his real name—which I hope he is not yet ashamed of —to the secretary of the N.Z. Defence League, with 2s 6d subscription, your correspondent will be entitled to voice his opinion in the management 0f Defence League affairs in the future.—l am, etc.,
