LARGE GAINS CLAIMED | JAPANESE REINFORCEMENTS BEING RUSHED UP PRELUDE TO COUNTER-ATTACK 10.P.A —By Electric Telegraph—Oooyriaht! (Received IsthA pril, 9.0 am ) LONDON, 14th April The Hong Kong correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph” says that the great Chinese offensive on three fronts is being intensified. The bitterest fighting is at present taking place at Kaifeng. The Japanese claim to have recaptured the city, the Chinese withdrawing to the outskirts after setting fire to food depots and ammunition dumps and flooding the southern section. The Chinese continue to advance along the Canton-Hankow railway toward Wuchang. They were equally successful in Kwantung, taking the entire province except 100 square miles surrounding Canton.

Heavy Japanese reinforcements are being rushed up as a prelude to a counter-offensive.
