MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL BUSINESS CONCLUDED YESTERDAY There was a full attendance of members pf the Waimea County Council at the monthly meeting yetserday. The Automobile Association, Nelson wrote suggesting that local bodie; should not grant any future application; for gates across roads and should insist on the installation of cat.tle stop; and where gates already exist an endeavour should be made, without inflicting hardship, to get them removed and replaced in due course by rattle stops. The chairman (Councillor J Corder) said it would be admitted that gates were a nuisance in many eases but if the Council adopted the suggestion it might create hardship on some settlers. The letter was received. The Nelson Returned Soldiers’ Association. Waimea Sub-Branch. Richmond. invited members of the Co mcil to be present at the Anzac Day service to be held at l ichmond. Those councillors who can will attend. Mr F. A. C. Staig, Registered Surveyor. Nelson, asked the Council tc approve of the provisional"scheme plan of subdivision of parts sections 84 and 85 Suburban South, block 3. Waimea survey district, being property adjoining the Nelson Aerodrome. The En-

Staig. also applied for exemption from section 128, of “The Public Works Act, 1928.” of the northern side of the road fronting the southern side of part section 39, section 4 of 37 and section 22, block 11, Motueka sur-j vey district (A. Birkett, Tahunanui. offered 5s per cord for a narow strip of manuka up the left branch of the Wairoa Gorge. The offer was not accepted. The Wakefield School Committee, Wakefield, applied for 20 discarded planks from the Wakefield Bridge. The matter was left to the Engineer. Mr C A. Baigent, Wakefield, requested the Council to make a fordway above the Wakefield bridge The Engineer’s reply was endorsed. Mr M. R. Clarke. Tophouse. requested the Council to repair the road giving access to the Tophouse Hotel. The Engineer was given power to act. |Mr E. L. Ngatimoti, drew the Council’s attention to the danger arising from the narrow piece of road between P. Tomlinson’s residence and the motor bridge near J. Remnant's packing shed. Ngatimoti. enquired if the- school committee could have the first refusal of spoil in the event of road widening work being carried out between P. N. Tomlinsons and Remnant's Creek at Ngatimoti The Engineer is to report! at the next meeting. Mr E. McKellor Green. R.M.D.. Wake- j field, stated that lie expects interest on the sum of £l9O contributed by him towards the cost of extending the road up the Big Pokororo. (The Council having decided not to proceed with the work at present). It was decided to reply that the Council could not pay interest on the money. Mr J. McCarthy Tadrnor. asked for some gravelling to be done on the road giving access to his property in the Baton. The Engineer is to report. Mr T D. Gardiner, Pokororo. applied for permission to erect a private telephone line along the west bank of the Motueka River.
