CONFERENCE OPENED THIS MORNING EXPECTED TO LAST WEEK l United PreßS Association! WELLINGTON, This Day. The conference convened by the New Zealand Government to discuss Pacific affairs with particular reference to defence, opened this morning at Parliament Buildings, the opening address delivered by the Governor-Gen-eral, Viscount Galway. The conference is expected to last a week. The top floor of the new wing of Parliament Buildings has been reserved for the conference, together with several rooms in the floor below.
Every precaution is being taken to see tha'; only authorised persons have access to the precincts. The approaches are guarded by detectives, police and orderlies. Including the secretariat and typists, the personnel of the conference consists of sixty-six people.
