South Australia, captained by Bradman, sent Victoria in to bat on a damp, sweating wicket. Victoria made 321 in their first innings (Hassett 102; Ward, four for 57). South Australia replied with 207 for seven (Waite not out 63). Bradman's hopes of beating Fry’s record of six consecutive centuries in first-class cricket was shattered when i he was dismissed for five.
