“DAY OF GREAT AWAKENING"

MILESTONE IN NAZI HISTORY BERLIN, 30th January. A blare of Nazi brass bands and shrilling fifes playing patriotic airs in beflagged streets, awakened citizens at 6 a.m. on the sixth anniversary of the Nazi accession to power, which an official programme, in accordance with the custc i of naming each anniversary as a milestone in Nazi history, designated “The Day of Great Awakening,'’ commemorating the absorption of Austria and Sudetenland. Field-Marshal Goering. Air Minister, in the course of a statement, said the six years since Herr Hitler had taken the leadership in his strong hands, weighed more heavily in Germany’s history than the past centuries. Germany, in 1933, enchained by the Versailles Treaty, had not even sovereign rights in her own territory. The Greater German Reich now rises in the world, tying a firm knot into a block of steel. Eighty million people were now free, and armed forces watched over their independence. Dr. Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda, broadcasting to the children of Germany. said : *1 can scarcely think today what would have happened to Germany without the Fuhrer and the Nazis.
