HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated 27th January: Tallow.—Rather more business passing. Present spot quotations are: Mutton. fine, 24s 6d to 255; good. 21s to’2ls Gd; fair. 16s 6d to 17s. Beef: Fine. 20s Gd to 21s: good. 18s; fair. 16s to 16s Gd. Mixed: Good. 18s: fair, 16s to 16s Gd: j gut, 14s to 15s 6d. Mutton: Dark to dull, 14s to 15s 6d. I Hemp.—Manilla: Market quiet but j steady at the decline; "K” grade Janu- | ary/March shipments sold down to £lB 10s. Sisal: Market firm; early this week sold £l7 2s Gd, now quoted sellers February.'April shipments, £l7. New Zealand: Nothing to report in the absence of offers. Peas,-—Maples: Market firm. Prices have advanced. No. 1 New Zealand: March/April shipment, sold 54s to 58s; later. 59s Gd. Tasmanian: Very little offering at present. "A” grade Tasmanian: February/March shipment resale. ! 61s to 645. Shippers are asking 675, : which is above buyers’ ideas. English farmers’ cheese is quoted 86s to 96s and for factory 63s per cwt. New Zealand cheese is selling retail at 9d per lb.
