“MAYERLING” TO BE RELEASED IN NEW ZEALAND Metropolitan Films, an organisation recently formed for the distribution of films in New Zealand, have announced that “Mayerling.” which was produced in France and which has become famous during long runs in overseas countries, will be presented before New Zealand audiences soon. Based on Claude Anet’s world-re-nowned novel. “Idyl’s End,” one of the best sellers of recent years. “Mayerling” reveals the true story of the romance of Prince Rudolph, of Austria, played by Charles Boyer, and Baroness Merle Vetsera, played by Danielle Darrieux. The very strong story, founded, on fact, set in the ljrvish magnificence of Vienna to the accompaniment of Viennese music, and played by an exceptionally talented cast, apart from the artistry of the principals, makes “Mayerling” one of the big 1939 attractions. V ¥ Greta Garbo’s comedy, “Ninotchka,” has had to be postDoned because George Cukor is not free to direct it. Garbo does not want any other director to handle her first comedy.
