TASMAN SERVICE
CONSTRUCTION OF FLYING BOATS
TWO READY FOR LAUNCHING POSSIBILITY OF ALTERNATIVE ROUTES TO LONDON fU.P.A.-By Electric Telegraph—Copyright! (Received 27th January, 12.55 p.m.) LONDON. 26th January. Mr Hudson Fysh said that while the first new 24-ton flying boats destined for the Tasman service are about to be launched at Rochester, and an additional two were being launched within a month, it did not necessarily mean that we would be able to fly them to Australia to begin the Tasman service immediately. The date of the opening service depends on the provision of adequate bases, requisite radio services, and navigational aids, also an agreement was necessary as to which company would operate the new service. Pie added that the Pacific was increasingly important, both civilly and militarily. England and America were fully alive to the possibilities of cooperation. According to reports from the United Spates, further aviation activities will be undertaken shortly in many of the North and South Pacific Islands. We are surveying the possibilities of the extension of the LondonAuckland route to Fiji and ultimately to San Francisco, linking trans-Cana-dian service, completing British airlines across the world, affording Australia and New Zealand alternative routes to London.
