HOLLYWOOD AS FASHION SPONSOR

INFLUENCE OF “ZAZA” Hollywood fashion influences are more strongly felt in Paris and in London than in New York, strangely enough. Perhaps the old, old truth about the hometown girl being more appreciated in distant climes, applies. Whatever it is, Hollywood designers recently made rush trips to the Paris and London fashion centres and found that there was double .he amount of excitement about Hollywood styles abroad than in America. In every collection there were “Zaza" models, now sweeping both America and Europe to such an extent that the origin of the fad is practically smothered. The fact remains, however, that a few months ago, when Paramount announced that Claudette Colbert would be starred in this old French favourite, important coutouriers started whipping lip “Zaza” designs. Since then, mass manufacturers have followed this lead and the trend comes under the heading of “modernised 1900 silhouettes,” “Gibson Girl revivals,” ah ’, various other titles. The fault, or credit, as the case may be, remains however, on the head of Claudette Colbert in her characterisation of the darling of the Paris music halls of yesteryear. Hollywood takes the trend as a matter of course. New York pretends to ignore the actual origin, but is taking advantage of it just the same. Paris and London are raving over it, and give Hollywood full praise for beginning such a popular vogue.
