The roar of artillery is louder and houses are crumbling. The Republicans are continuing their retreat and | are endeavouring to form new lines. Colonel Romero has been appointed officer commanding the city defences. Moroccans occupied the outer sub- ( urbs of Ilospitalct and Casa Antunez. The panic flight from the city continues. The harbour is crowded with boats laden to the gunwales with refugees trying desperately to board a few merchantmen remaining in port. Scores were overcrowded arid overturned. Ambulances arc rushiAg back and forth in the streets. Shelling and air raiding is continuous. The rebels have taken Solsons. The Nationalists placed a cordon in the west and north-west sectors of Barcelona, and are advancing on all , other sectors.
