BOROUGH AFFAIRS MEETING OF THE COUNCIL The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Richmond Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr A. R. Tuffnell), Councillors McGlashen. Lukey, Palmer and Strat- | ford. Councillors and Norris were ■ excused from attendance, and it was resolved that a letter be sent to Coun- | cillor Norris expressing the hope that he would soon be restored to good health. Accounts totalling £376 13s 6d were passed for payment. FOREMAN'S REPORT The foreman’s report jvas read and adopted as follows: A further 63 yards of rubble have been carted with the dump truck for the road at the sanitary paddock. Pot-holes in Champion road. Hill street, and William street have been filled with river gravel; 7£ yards of river gravel have also been carted into the borough yard. The grader has been worked on Jubiless Park, also on Upper Queen'street. Oxford street. McShane’s road. Lower Queen street. Wensley road and the State highway. Some rolling has been done at Jubilee Park with the tractor and roller. On the 20th inst. the water at the reservoir was overflowing.CORRESPONDENCE The Main Highways Board wrote stating that no subsidy was available for concrete kerbing in Queen street. The letter also stated that as it was necessary to have the kerbing completed before the shoulders were sealed, it was hoped that this work would be put in hand as soon as possible. The Labour Department asked for information as to work being carried out under Scheme 13. This is to be supplied. It was also resolved that the Em- i ployment Officer be asked for additional labour to assist in carrying out necessary work in the borough. The Waimea Power Board supplied a quotation for alterations to the lighting in the Town Hall. It was resolved that this work be carried out after the pro jection-box has been shifted to the northern end of the building. Mr F. I. Ledger asked for the council’s approval of a sub-division behind the old institute building. This was approved. DOG TAX. COLLECTOR Two applications were received for the position of dog tax collector. Mr H. P. Hawkins was appointed. GENERAL BUSINESS It was resolved that posts and chain be erected round the plot of ground adjoining the Town Hall. A permit was granted to Messrs Robertson Bros, to remove a residence from Aniseed Valley and re-erect same in Lower Queen street. The planting of trees \n Jubilee Park was discussed at length, and it was resolved that councillors meet at the park to make a thorough inspection of the ground.
