FIGHTING NEAR CANTON HEAVY JAPANESE REINFORCEMENTS IU PA—B.v Electric Telegraph— CoD.vngbt (Received 25th January, 10.5 a.m.) HONG KONG, 24th January. After a period of intermittent fighting within thirty miles of Canton the Japanese resumed the bombing of Pakhoi, heavily reinforcing troops in the vicinity of Canton. WAICHO ISLANDS OCCUPIED LARGE SCALE LANDING IN SOUTHWEST ANTICIPATED (Received 25th January. 11.45 a.m.) CHUNKING. 24th January. The Japanese have occupied Waicho Island and Pakhoi. This is believed to be a prelude to an attempt at a large' scale landing in south-west China, also a threat to Hainan.
