ONE MILE FROM SUBURBS
PORT BEING POUNDED BY BATTERIES 2005 PRISONERS TAKEN (Received 25th January, 1 35 a.m.) LERIDA. 24th January. General Franco's forces have reached a point one mile from Barcelona’s suburbs. Nationalist batteries to-night are pounding Barcelona's port. Over 2000 prisoners were taken by midday. Simultaneously with the advance of the Moroccans the fourth division of the Navarrese crossed the Llobregat line near Martorell. In south Manresa the advance continues practically unopposed in all sectors.
Reports persist that Senor • Negrin’s Government has left Barcelona, for a destination unknown. It is understood that General Miaja is en route for Barcelona from Madrid.
