BUTTER PRICE RISING

IN SHORT SUPPLY By arrangement with the Primary Products Marketing Department, the New Zealand Dairy Board supplies quotations of the London dairy produce market at close of business on Saturday. New Zealand salt butter was quoted 125 s to 126 s per cwt, an advance of 2s per cwt on the week, and unsalted at 127 s to 1295, a rise of Is to 3s per cwt. There were but small supplies available. Danish butter was quoted spot at 138 s to 140 s per cwt, against 144 s to 145 s the week before. Other salt butters were: Australian, 121 s to 1225; Polish, 121 s; South African, 118 s to 120 s. Unsalted butters were: Australian, 124 s to 1255; Dutch, 122 s to 1275; Lithuanian, 1265; Polish, 120 b to 121 s. The New Zealand butter market was reported as “slow throughout the week.” New Zealand butter was selling retail at Is 2d per lb, but was exepeted to be increased to Is 3d this week. Danish wus retailing at Is 5d per lb. The Imperial Economic Committee estimated that stocks of all butters in store at 24tli January were equivalent to 638,518 boxes, against 334,908 boxes at the same date of last year. The New Zealand cheese market was quiet at 69s 6d to 70s for white and coloured. Australian commanded 62s to 65s fo*' white and 64s to 66s for coloured. Canadian white and coloured cheese was selling at 72s to 74s with 80s paid for old season’s make,. South African cheese was selling at 67s for white and coloured. English fanners’ cheese was quoted j ■it 84s to 96s and English factory 63s to 665. New Zealand cheese was selling retail at 9d per lb.
